FILM SCORE FEST 2021: IT HAPPENED!
Finally getting around to sharing an image from Film Score Fest back in early September, when folks gathered in Mears Park over in St Paul to see and hear original local films projected on a giant screen and accompanied by a live orchestra, performing custom scores by local composers. A super cool event that I was happy to contribute to-- as sound editor, Foley artist, and mixer on the short film “Floaters”, directed and animated by Kari Jo Skogquist, scored by composer Paul Fonfara, and starring Joe Hansel and a couple of Kari Jo’s hand-drawn animated creatures.
It was a fun challenge mixing the FX, Foley, ADR and backgrounds on a film that would eventually have to be balanced live with an orchestra. It took a bit of guesswork to carve out a silence where the music would eventually sit, but I guessed well, and I was really happy with the results. Not to mention the tangible sense of triumph to gathering in person (albeit outdoors) to screen a film we’d made entirely during quarantine. Thanks to Charlie McCarron for putting together this terrific event!
