MUSIC FOR PODCAST: “THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE RAZED”
"This Place Needs To Be Razed" originated as the musical score to Episode 4 of "Impossible Performances", a podcast I created in collaboration between Skewed Visions' Charles Campbell and myself. It's Track 8 on my "Soundtracks, Vol 1" collection.
This music follows the narrative and internal monologue (voiced by Heidi Berg) of someone entering a theater, making their way through the crowd, settling into their seat in the auditorium, watching the performance with disgust, exiting the venue, and-- on their walk outside afterward-- rising into the air and flying over the city. I scored this piece mostly with guitars, both electric and acoustic, filling a spectrum from lightly picked melodic lines (often flipped around backwards) to a maelstrom of power chords and caterwauling distorted leads, eventually revealing with a strident, folky piano melody that resolves with an understated majesty. With these movements I hoped to reflect the nervousness, critical anger, and subsequent liberation embodied in the text.
(Video is not from the podcast, btw… I added it purely for some visual interest.)
