FOLEY: CONTACT TRACES

Some behind the scenes documentation of Foley (performed sound effects to match onscreen action) on “Contact Traces”, a short film by Kevin Obsatz. Congrats on a second consecutive day’s blog mention, Kevin!

Given the fame and fortune he’s attained since, it’s hard to believe that Sam Carlson was once a Cool Cat Audio intern– and yet there he was, subtly dunking a ball infuser and sliding it out again in sync with looped video footage like a pro!

This was, in fact, the first time Sam and I had ever met in person– most of the internship took place remotely during COVID quarantine.

In the photos above: notes on preferred takes, plus some of the objects I brought in as props to capture handling, impacts, friction, and general presence of physical movement during the film. It’s a quiet, reflective piece for the most part, so the moves had to be nuanced. But the cloth is all clean laundry here, folks. That’s the Cool Cat Audio difference!
