“CONTACT TRACES” ADR
Zoom images of a remote ADR session (not synced to picture) with director Kevin Obsatz, for his forthcoming short film “Contact Traces”. (Believe me, the scenario here is even less high-tech than it looks.) No sound was recorded on location, so we’ve created all the audio in post.
Kevin asked for some ADR that we’d hear just on the verge of perception, and since he wasn’t in Minneapolis at the time, I recommended that he record some dialog outside if he didn’t have a proper studio environment to work in. He asked me if I’d get on Zoom with him to simulate a conversation so we could each record the results on our end. What I didn’t expect was that Kevin would take the “outside” thing to heart by trooping all the way out into the woods with a field recorder and Zooming in on his phone.
Not having hooked things up in a particularly smooth way, I wound up with a large headphone in one ear and an earbud in the other, Zooming on a laptop while recording into my studio rig. Weirdest ADR session ever– which is saying something. It’s not all glamour, folks!
