MCSWEENEY’S AUDIO ISSUE
I’ve been enjoying the McSweeney’s Audio Issue. My friend Pat generously ordered it for me– which not only allowed me to experience it, but also to know that it exists!
Online audio complements the printed text in various ways. It’s kind of a 21st century version of turning the page when you hear Tinkerbell, although the prompt is often the other way around.
“ClearVoice” is an imagined instruction manual for the installation of an app that penetrates and connects the brains of its users. The audio production is lovely, but my favorite part is that while the printed text and finished product are evidently supposed to match, it turns out that we’re reading an outdated draft of the script, and never received the final copy. Perfect.
Thanks again Pat!
