Here’s some sound design work I did recently on a feature video presentation for “One Amazing Night”, a gala organized by 10,000 Degrees. This California-based non-profit provides financial assistance for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain their educational goals.

Featured here: the sound effects layer of excerpts from the video, followed by another pass demonstrating the FX integrated into the overall soundscape with dialog/ voiceover and music.

The creative brief called for the sounds of drawing/ scribbling, and it took a couple of passes to get right. The client often wanted softer, more feathery textures than the rough-hewn strokes I started with, so at times I wound up using more subtle textures like cloth. I used a lot of chimes and other musical textures in tune with the music track, but at points (like the tears at :39) the request was to use something lighter and more atmospheric, so I went with something more suggestive of ocean surf at that point.

The client was thrilled with the end result, and the event was a success. Boom! And btw, you can watch the entire video here. I didn’t mix the video itself, though, so I can’t take credit for that.

Thanks to Sequence Films and Squawk Productions for this opportunity!
