CLOSE YOUR EYES
It’s a truism embraced by musicians and audio engineers for a long time, and now it’s been confirmed by science! If we close our eyes while experiencing audio stimuli, it’s a more powerful sound experience than that which we’d have with our eyes open.
Again, udio folks have been all about this forever, since we’re tempted to look at all the meters and faders and dials and what have you, thinking that we can tell what’s going on thusly, but of course that’s not the thing… the thing is that our work is evaluated by listening, and no one will be sitting there looking at the meters and faders and what have you when they’re experiencing the end product.
It’s a little trickier, of course, for those of us who sync audio to picture— I find that listening to a mix with no visual tends to mislead in that case. But that’s a subject for another time. For now: close your eyes!
